Durcast shielding

DURCAST SHIELDING

The perfect alliance between cast iron and steel

Durcast is a white cast iron with very high wear resistance, which can be easily operated. Durcast is constituted of Chrome Molybdenum cast iron blocks, bonded through a metallurgical process to a weldable basis of S235 steel.

White cast iron, that features exceptional hardness and wear resistance, is almost impossible to weld and difficult to bolt because of its fragility.

S235 steel is a material which can be operated very easily but shows poor wear resistance.

BENEFITS

S235 steel base:

  • Great weldability, including with complex steels such as Dursteel
  • Machinability
  • Easy forming
  • Shocks resistance (absorbing ability)

White cast iron:

  • Very high wear resistance
  • Perfect reaction to abrasion under high constraints
  • Resistance to corrosion related to high chrome content
  • Specific shapes made by casting

Association of the two components is obtained by brazing at high temperature in an inert gas atmosphere furnace, using a copper alloy.

NB: mechanical resistance of the metallurgical bonding (over 250 MPa) is superior to the tensile limit of S235 steel. There is therefore no risk of separation between the block of white cast iron and the steel base.
